Alex and Miles standing in front of Med Labs

Miles Goetzman, Class of ’27, was recently awarded an Independent Creative Research by Undergraduates (ICRU) Summer Fellowship by the Office of Undergraduate Research for a mentored experience with Dr. Alexander Boyden in the Department of Pathology. Miles’ project entitled “Investigating visual acuity and optic nerve pathology in a B cell-dependent mouse model of multiple sclerosis” aims to understand the role of pathogenic B cells in vision impairment during immune-mediated demyelinating disease by approximating in mice vision changes that can be experienced by people with MS. Alex and Miles thank their collaborators, Drs. Markus Kuehn (Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences) and Ashutosh Mangalam (Pathology), for providing access to an Optokinetic Response recording platform and for histopathologic assessment of murine optic nerves.
